NDG Intercultural Festival

Since 2009, the NDG Intercultural Table, co-coordinated by Bienvenue à Notre-Dame-de-Grâce and the NDG Community Council, organises the NDG Intercultural Festival at the end of each summer. The NDG Intercultural Festival brings the entire community together to celebrate the rich cultural diversity of NDG.

Objectives

Cultural Celebration and Integration: The primary objective is to bring together the NDG community to celebrate and embrace the rich cultural diversity present in the neighborhood. This includes both long-time residents and newcomers. The festival serves as a platform for cultural exchange, fostering a sense of belonging and integration among residents from various cultural backgrounds.
Promotion of Cross-Cultural Understanding: Another goal is to promote cross-cultural understanding and appreciation. Through cultural displays, performances, and activities, the festival aims to educate attendees about different cultures, traditions, and customs. This encourages respect, tolerance, and open-mindedness within the community.
Community Building: The festival serves as a catalyst for community building. It brings residents, community organizations, and local businesses together to collaborate and create a vibrant event. The objective is to strengthen social ties, foster a sense of unity, and encourage ongoing community engagement beyond the festival, ensuring that NDG remains an inclusive and harmonious place to live.

ACTIVITIES

Join us at the NDG Intercultural Festival! The opportunity to discover all the cultural richness of NDG through cooking, traditional dances, games and many other activities. This free family event will also be an opportunity to promote the various multicultural organizations located in the neighborhood.

The Intercultural Festival is looking for volunteers to help ensure the smooth running of the event. You can support by welcoming visitors, guiding participants, assisting with logistics, or helping with activities throughout the day. Your involvement is essential to the success of the festival!

HISTORY

More than 250 residents braved the harsh winter weather to attend the NDG Winter Mosaic at the Centre Communautaire Saint-Raymond. The event successfully strengthened community bonds through cultural exchange, connected residents with valuable local services, and featured both professional artists and youth-centered activities. While the event stood as a heartwarming example of resilience and inclusivity, it also highlighted areas for growth, such as the need for broader cultural representation, earlier confirmations from participating partners, and the creation of a cultural group database to enhance planning and outreach for future editions. 20 organisations participated, 8 multicultural acts were performed, including traditional dances and live music, and clay sculpture and calligraphy workshops were offered

Our vibrant multicultural festival welcomed over 500 attendees to an afternoon celebrating global arts and culture. The program showcased a rich lineup of cultural performances. In parallel, a visual arts exhibition featured exquisite fine art paintings and expressive sculptures. The event concluded at 4:00 PM, leaving the large and enthusiastic audience with a memorable experience of cultural exchange and artistic excellence.

NDG is a vibrant cultural mosaic.To celebrate this explosion of culture in the borough, the NDG Intercultural Festival showcase the food, music and art of each culture to the residents of the neighborhood as a tool to educate people on the different traditions of the people living in our diverse community. In summer 2023, more than 500 residents and 25 local organisations attended. There were 8 community booths representing different countries such as Iran, Iraq, Sudan, Azerbaijan, China, and more.
