HISTORY OF NDG COMMUNITY COUNCIL

The NDG Community Council, as a Table de quartier, is launching this new tool in line with NDG Community Action Plan under Priority C on Axis 2: "Increase the visibility of our individual and collective work." The newsletter will be sent monthly on the last Monday. The Objective of this new tool is to share updates on new projects , initiatives, funding opportunities, workshops, training, etc . In addition, we will be highlighting new staff members and our achievements. Feel free to share it and invite your colleagues to subscribe!

The NDG Community Listing is a new project by the NDG Community Council aimed at bringing valuable resources closer to NDG residents and organizations. Our online resource center provides up-to-date information on topics and services that impact your daily life and community well-being. Accessible to all, the platform is a comprehensive, user-friendly tool where you can find resources and services organized by subject, including events, local services, volunteer opportunities, job offers, and more. This initiative empowers you to stay informed, connected, and engaged in our vibrant NDG community!

RADIO SHOW

"What’s Happening in NDG" is a show for residents of the Montreal borough of Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, as well as the Montreal community at large, to highlight important events and initiatives happening in NDG, and the wonderful folks that make things happen.

PROGRAM Café Rencontre

Café Rencontre NDG was launched in October 2023 in response to a resident’s request for a welcoming drop-in space to help break social isolation. Designed for NDG residents, the program provides a supportive environment for connection, conversation, and shared activities. Since early 2024, participation has grown significantly—reaching 30 to 50 participants per session—particularly among women aged 40+, fostering meaningful connections across diverse cultural backgrounds.

NDG Community Council supports community workers and organisations at this time. We collect resources to help you with emotional behaviors, technical tips, computer skills, break social isolation, hygiene measures

Many NDG organizations offer free tax clinics for many years. The NDG Community Council, the Senior’s Citizens Council, the Carrefour Jeunesse Emploi and the CIUSSS , in partnership with the Community Volunteer Program, offers free tax services to their clients, or to all NDG residents. In 2011, the Council joined all organizations offering tax services for modest income residents to create the NDG Tax Coalition. The mandate of the Coalition is to coordinate services and share resources to better serve the community. The Council is engaged to pursue with the Coalition and to recruit new partners.

Since 2003 

«Meet Candidates» is a nonpartisan bilingual public assembly moderated by experienced moderators. During this evening, residents will have an opportunity to address their questions about issues that concerns them to the candidates. The NDG Community Council strongly encourages residents to come and participate in number to this assembly.

 The NDG Community Council is hosting a public assembly for residents to meet the candidates running in the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce riding. All residents are encouraged to participate. Come ask questions and learn where your candidates stand on important neighborhood issues.

The spirit of community involvement has always been present in the borough of Notre-Dame-de-Grace. The earliest example of such community mobilization was the NDG Citizen's Association, founded in 1920. The Citizen's Association rallied support for social issues it deemed important to community health, including successfully rallying 500 citizens to oppose the licensing of a local tavern. Five years later, they again rallied community members to prevent the NDG park from being turned into a baseball stadium. Unfortunately the Citizen's Association proved to be too effective, solving the most pressing issues and only intermittently meeting when the need arose, leading to decreased membership and it's eventual dissolution in the 1930's.
