The Council is a provincially incorporated not-for-profit organization that is governed by a maximum of 14 member board of directors made up of NDG residents. The staff appoints a member of their team to sit on the board and the executive director is a non-voting Board member. Board committees are struck on an ad hoc basis to develop recommendations on organizational policies and initiatives that are considered and adopted by the Board of Directors.

The management of the organization is the responsibility of the executive director who works with a staff team, all of whom have an area of expertise for which they are responsible. Committees made up of volunteer residents and members of other organizations work to support the various facets of the organization i.e., resource centre, public assemblies, and local democracy.

• The Council is an organization based on membership.
• Individuals and organizations may be members.
• The Council’s actions follow from the decisions of the Board of Directors.
